30 Very Real Struggles Girls With Curly Hair Go Through In Life

Tumblr Having curly hair is truly a gift… according to the people who don’t actually have it. Dealing with curls is no easy task, and one most of us have to battle with on a constant basis. The amount we must spend on products is enough to drive us to the streets, the time we spend managing our frizz is enough to drive any person insane and the anxiety we feel at hair appointments is enough to cause anyone to hit up a shrink. The struggle is real, and today I am going to break it down for you: 1. The biggest lie you have ever heard is “I’m sure it looks great curly.” How would you even know? You’ve never even seen it. Jerk. 2. No one (not even you sometimes) can wrap their heads around how much you spend on hair products Maybe that&

The first thing my deskmate did when he sat down this morning and saw the new Grand Theft Auto V trailer I had posted to our section was exclaim “Jesus Christ! Five minutes long?” Yes, at four minutes and fifty-one seconds, the video is more than twice as long as the average theatrical movie trailer. And given what we know both about Rockstar’s meticulous planning and media savvy, and about attention spans for internet video, it’s worth asking: why? This was certainly a deliberate move—but for what reason? One place to start thinking about this is a

Neanderthal Diets Changed With Climate. Ours Didnt

Uncategorized
Researchers studying tooth wear patterns in ancient Homo reveal that as climate began to fluctuate severely in the Ice Age Neanderthals adapted their diets in a different way than our own species. The findings, published in PLOS One this week, suggest that human dietary strategies gave our species an edge over Neanderthals. The Neanderthal lineage survived for hundreds of thousands of years throughout western Eurasia, successfully dealing with both harsh and changing environments. Why they went extinct some 40,000 years ago is still a mystery. Some researchers would expect Neanderthals to be better adapted than Homo sapiens a species that evolved in Africa to live in Europe during extreme climate instability. But, modern humans replaced Neanderthals, suggesting that our...

Unfortunately for her, she got stuck. Neighbors heard the woman’s screams for help at around 5:45 am on Sunday and called the police. 10 Notorious Cases of the Bystander Effect

Humans
The bystander effect is the somewhat controversial name given to a social psychological phenomenon in cases where individuals do not offer help in an emergency situation when other people are present. The probability of help has in the past been thought to be inversely proportional to the number of bystanders. In other words, the greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that any one of them will help. This list describes the prototype of the effect and cites nine particularly heinous examples. First, the prototype of the bystander effect. Since it was first discovered in 1976, strains of the Ebola virus have wreaked havoc throughout central Africa, particularly in the Congo area. Perhaps the most frightening thing about Ebola, other than its staggering mortality rate, is how very little we know about it. 102014 Outbreak As of August 6, 2014, the World Health Organization claimed that 932 people had died of Ebola so far in the summer of 2014. Immunotherapy is a relatively nascent weapon in the fight against cancer. Instead of relying on more conventional chemotherapy treatments, this technique encourages the body to use its own immune system to destroy cancerous tissue. Its been seeing some success recently, and a new drug, IMM-101, has been shown to extend the lives of people with severe pancreatic cancer. Although this is clearly wonderful, there are two aspects of this trial that stand out as truly remarkable. Firstly, the drug which is made from heat-treated bacteria produces no side-effects in patients whatsoever. Secondly, it can successfully treat metastatic cancer, the type wherein tumors have spread all throughout the body and where untreated survival rates are incredibly low. Other reasons are personal memories. I grew up in Westchester County, in a suburban town just outside New York, so the city was ingrained in me from a young age. Today’s weapons of war are increasingly geared towards felling an enemy in as humane a way as possible, with high velocity firearms ensuring a quick death. Soldiers are also trained to kill enemies quickly and (well, almost) painlessly, with bladed side-arms. However, in times gone by, humane weapons were the last thing warriors were looking to wield. Pain and maximum suffering were the order of the day, and the popularity of a weapon could be measured by its brutality. For good reason, too! A weapon that scared the crap out of your enemy was a useful tool, as well as an empowering asset. Let’s take a look at some of the more fearsome, and downright nasty, weapons employed by warriors of times gone by. Instead of wandering around the alleys of Edinburgh, people think I should be house-hunting in the suburbs. Thankfully, after years of searching, I’ve found someone who appreciates my zest for adventure, my passion for exploration and my love of travel. Real Estate Agent Gives Buyers Tour Through Home On A Roller Coaster

Apartment (or house) hunting is notoriously stressful. One real estate broker thought he’d add a bit of fun into the otherwise soul-slaying endeavor by installing a mini roller coaster inside an on-the-market home in Ermelo, Netherlands. When showing the house, the broker, named Verder met Wonen, ushers prospective buyers onto the wooden ride, which carries the interested parties into the basement, up a flight of stairs into the main floor of the home and finally, out through the garden. As part of an advertising campaign, met Wonen developed a promotional video featuring the roller coaster tours. We’re not sure if this is the best way to actually sell a house, but it certainly is memorable. See the broker’s mini coaster in action up top. Read more: http://elitedaily.com/env

500 African Rhinos Will Be Relocated Due to the Increasing Level Of Poaching.

NEWS
Over a thousand rhinos were murdered last year for their horns. That number is increasing at an alarming rate from the 13 who killed in 2007. Illegal poaching in South Africa's Kruger National Park recently reached such high levels to the point where hiring more guards isn't enough. The only solution: evacuating the animals to safer zones. The plan is to relocate 500 of the rhinos to areas where poaching is less of a concern. Over 600 rhinos were already murdered this year. In an international collaboration, researchers led by Matthew Levin of the California Academy of Sciences and Stephen Samuel of Trinity College Dublin have demonstrated that they may be edging towards the development of a universal snake venom antidote that could potentially dramatically improve the survival rates of victims of venomous snakebites. The study has been published in The Journal of Tropical Medicine. Venomous snakebites are responsible for a considerable number of deaths each year. Of the 5 million snakebites reported each year, it is estimated that 2 million result in the injection of venom and between 94,000 and 125,000 will result in death. Furthermore, approximately 75% of these fatalities occur before reaching the hospital, which is mainly due to di...

The American Civil War was the deadliest war in American history. Between the years of 1861 to 1865, it is estimated that 620,000 soldiers lost their lives. It's no surprise that so much death and destruction from that time period has resulted in a lot of creepy ghost stories. Here are some that will spook you out of camping pretty much anywhere on the east coast. 1.) Devil's Den at the battlefield of Gettysburg is infamous for an apparition of a barefoot man. The ghost appears dressed in the garb of a Texan militia unit who fought in the battle. Witnesses who have seen him claim he tells them, "What you’re looking for is over there.” He then will point towards Plum Run and then vanish. hauntedamericatours.com ...

Top 10 Worst Movie Sequels

I admit it: I’m a sucker for sequels, even though they’re, almost always, a major let-down, in comparison to the original. Still, I plunk down my hard-earned money in hopes of reliving the excitement and wonder of the original all over again. Unfortunately, new directors, screenwriters and actors who phone in their performances for a paycheck, disappoint over and over again. This list was compiled based on original movies that experienced great box-office power, or are cult classics. If you find this list incredibly depressing, head over to the Top 10 Best Movie Sequels to lift your spirits. The original “American Pie” was a box office smash, is frequently listed in the Top 50 comedy films of all time and set the bar much higher (lower?) in gross-out, anatomical comedy. The two seq

There is a sense of haunting to the roar of a lion veiled in darkness. The emphatic ooooaa! demands attention as it starts in the abdomen and reverberates through the night air. Its direction and distance are secondary to ones primordial reaction a sudden dilation of the pupils and a flare of prickles on the neck. The call unmistakably announces a large carnivore, yet as each roar fades into solitary grunts it feels less like an act of aggression than the lonely imploring of a lost soul in the darkness. The plight of Africas lions is lamentable. Since the 1960s, the world has lost at least 70% of these magnificent cats, which until a few thousand years ago inhabited most of Europe, Asia and the Americas. Now were down to around 20,000, all of them in Africa apart from one ...

Much of the focus has been directed towards pesticides containing neonicotinoids, which in sub-lethal levels have been linked to negatively impacting the bees' ability to navigate, as well as making them more susceptible to other diseases. But a new study suggests that neonics arent the only pesticide that we should be worrying about. The research, published in the Journal of ChemicalEcology, has shown that small doses of a pesticide known as chlorpyrifos can severely affect the learning ability and memory of honeybees, which could impact their ability to pollinate flowers and threaten their survival. The...

When you look outside, you might see a squirrel run up a tree, a snake slither across the lawn, or the occasional bees’ nest near your house. There are much more interesting creatures in the world beyond your yard, however. Here, we bring you those exotic animals, from a hummingbird impostor to a sneezing Michael Jackson monkey. 10Bald Uakari The bald uakari is a species of monkey native to Brazil and Peru that is known for its bright red face. A pack of these monkeys is called a troop, and they prefer to live in high trees, away from the constant flooding that plagues their habitat. The feel good story of the night comes to us from Morton, Ill. and involves a 75-year-old Army veteran who fought off a crazed 19-year-old who threatened his class of chess studentswith two knives: From the Tribune: James Vernon was teaching a chess class with 16 children at Morton Public Library when authorities say 19-year-old Dustin Brown entered the room with two knives. According to a court affidavit, Brown told police afterward that he “failed in his mission to kill everyone.” “He actually ran into the room yelling, ‘I’m going to kill some people!’ He was holding two knives,” Vernon told the Pekin Daily News. Vernon described the knives as “hunting types” with “fixed blades about 5 inches” long. Vernon suffered “...

The ability for a tigerfish to leap out of the water and grab low-flying birds out of the air has only been the stuff of local legend in Africa - until now. For the first time, researchers have been able to catch this practice on film and twenty instances were observed and documented. The team was led by G. C. O’Brien of North-West University in Potchfstroom, South Africa and the results were published in the Journal of Fish Biology. African tigerfish (Hydrocynus vittatus) live in various freshwater bodies around Africa. Fully grown males can grow just over a meter in length (40 inches) with females slightly smaller. They have sixteen large razor-sharp teeth, which has led many to liken their appearance to an elongated piranha. Though their documented diet normally co
