Shaun Stocker was serving inAfghanistanin 2010 when he stepped on a bomb, severely injuring him. He was then placed intoan induced coma by doctors with hope of making his survival more likely.
Because of the blow, Stocker lost his legs, testicles and sight. Above all things, this would usually result in becoming a biological father being out of your reach – a very distressing thought.
Fast-thinking doctors, however, managed to salvage some of his sperm so IVF would be an option in the future. And that’s exactly what Shaun did.
After one course of IVF, his girlfriend, Persia, became pregnant and there son, Theo, was born on Christmas day!
As a heart-warming tribute to Dr Jackson Kirkman-Brown, who developed the technique that allowed Theo to be born, Shaun and Persia gave their son the middle name, Jackson.
“We couldnt believe it. To be able to have a baby at all after everything Shaun has been through felt like a miracle in itself, but to be told our baby was due on Christmas Day felt even more poignant.
“In the run-up to Christmas, I dont think either of us thought it would actually happen on Christmas Day itself because due dates are rarely precise.”
-Persia told The Mirror.
“That was such a proud moment. Im so proud of Persia. She was brilliant. Theo is the son I never thought Id be able to have and it is all because of the brilliance of Dr Jackson Kirkman-Brown.”
-Shaun went on to say.
It’s an amazing story and we’re so happy for the three of them. Congratulations!
